🏖️Various, Europe & the Mediterranean

The Most Beautiful Beach Holiday Spots Within a Flight of Turkey

Crystal-clear turquoise sea, blue-flag beaches and a sunny climate... For those seeking a beach holiday there are options all over the world; but considering flight times and cost from Turkey, the Mediterranean, the Aegean and their surroundings still form the most accessible beach-holiday basin. Here are the most beautiful sea destinations most easily reached from Istanbul.

The Greek Islands: From Santorini to Rhodes

Rhodes is the largest Greek island closest to Turkey — it can even be reached by ferry from Marmaris or Bodrum. With the Acropolis of Lindos and the historic city centre, it's ideal for a culture-sea combination. Its beaches are of Aegean standard, and accommodation appeals to every budget.

Kos (Greece) is close to Rhodes and generally more affordable. Corfu, at the gateway to the Adriatic, offers a different Greek experience with the crystal waters of the Ionian Sea and an old town under Venetian architectural influence. Mykonos and Santorini are in the premium segment; in peak tourism season prices have soared.

Croatia: The Adriatic's Blue-Flag Coasts

Croatia's Dalmatian coast is home to one of Europe's purest and least-polluted seas. Dubrovnik, Split, Hvar and the island of KorÄŤula offer a top-tier experience for those seeking both history and a beach holiday. Its number of blue-flag beaches is consistently among the highest in Europe.

There are direct or connecting flights from Istanbul to Split or Dubrovnik; about 2–3 hours. Croatia is a little more expensive than Greece but high in quality; the shoulder season (May–June, September) makes up for that difference.

The Spanish Coast: Costa del Sol & the Balearic Islands

The Costa del Sol (Malaga, Marbella), with 300 sunny days a year, is Europe's sunniest holiday region. This coast, which has become the summer base of British, German and northern European visitors, is also becoming increasingly accessible for Turkish tourists.

The Balearic Islands (Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, Formentera): Mallorca ranges from budget-friendly resorts to luxury boutique hotels; Ibiza is a nightlife-and-sea combination; Menorca, with Europe's purest coves and blue-flag beaches, is the island preferred by those seeking a quiet beach holiday.

North Africa: The Coasts of Tunisia and Morocco

Tunisia (Hammamet, Djerba), at a close distance to Istanbul (2–3 hours), is a very affordable Mediterranean alternative. With Berber culture, Mediterranean cuisine and all-inclusive resorts, it offers good value for money for family holidays.

Morocco's Agadir, with its sunny coast tucked behind the Atlas Mountains, has come onto the radar of both European and Middle Eastern visitors. It's reachable from Istanbul with a direct or connecting flight in 4–5 hours; very reasonable hotel prices are available in the shoulder season.
